Financial Professional’s Guide to Personal Finance COURSE DESIGN & CONTENT The Financial Professional’s Guide to Personal Finance is designed for those financial professionals wanting to venture into the field of financial counseling or to enhance the skills as one already involved in finance. This course will carry the financial advisor through the beginning stages and progressions of personal financial management. Even though the emphasis is geared toward advising the individual, many of the concepts are applicable in the business environment. It begins with the basics such as budgeting and cash flow management and progresses on to the many facets of estate planning. It also covers performing intermediate analysis of various components of the financial planning process, which provides the foundation to develop a comprehensive and sophisticated financial planning analysis. LEARNING OBJECTIVES This course covers fundamental principles of personal finance. Prior knowledge and exposure to the field of finance is not a prerequisite but will assist in comprehension of the principles discussed. For those with prior experience, it will help build upon concepts already learned and solidify the understanding of those concepts infrequently applied. Successful completion will enhance one’s ability to provide financial counsel to others needing basic to intermediate advice. PREPARATION No prior preparation or review is necessary for this course. A financial function calculator is an asset but not necessary. However, if one is proactive as a financial advisor, such a calculator is a must. The course covers each topic and concept as if one had no prior exposure and builds upon that. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODOLOGY AND CPE CREDIT This course is designed as interactive self-study and the cpe credit earned toward meeting the CFP Board’s continuing educational requirement is 15 hours. ADMINISTRATIVE Participants must pass the exam by the end of their next reporting cycle and requires a minimum passing grade of 70%. Refunds are available within 30 days of ordering.
